Will I be able to enter that store that I like so much or will my son start screaming and kicking on the floor because he just wants to run through the crowded aisles Will I have to go home seclude myself because I cant be in public places without my son losing control All of the previous questions and many more that I left out for reasons of space represent seconds of thought on any given day in the life of parents with a child with autism. Common problems for us that parents of children with harmonious development I think I will never hate an expression more in my life do not have do not understand.
Lets raise the level another step. What will happen when my son changes his daycare Special Database where he has been since six months for a school where he knows nothing or no one where the routines are firmer where the rigidity of the environment exceeds his own in some ways own. What will happen to his companions will they laugh at him accept him harass him ignore him take advantage of his indifference for his benefit And the teachers Will they be competent will they help him with what he needs will they have adequate training to deal with the special needs of our children will.
They have the necessary motivation and interest with these to support him And the school itself Will the rest of the staff teaching or not be prepared at all levels will they have training to identify and care for children with special needs And the rest of the parents those who have normal children Do you know that there are different children along with your children Do you understand what those differences mean Do they think its okay and will they act accordingly or just the opposite But lets go even further. And when our children with autism are adults there is a clear problem of infantilization of disabled people in their adult lives especially.
